Early Years Lead Practitioner Level 5 Overview for Training Providers
The Early Years Lead Practitioner Level 5 apprenticeship develops experienced practitioners into confident leaders who can drive high-quality practice in early years settings.
Early Years Lead Practitioners work across a range of environments including nurseries, schools, and childcare settings, taking an operational lead for the care, learning, and development of children from birth to age 8.
They combine hands-on practice with leadership responsibilities, acting as role models of effective teaching and learning while supporting and developing the practice of other practitioners.
For Training Providers, delivering the Early Years Lead Practitioner Level 5 standard requires:
Supporting apprentices to demonstrate leadership and decision-making in practice
Developing advanced knowledge, skills, and behaviours across both delivery and team leadership
Preparing apprentices for End-Point Assessment (EPA) across multiple, integrated assessment methods
As a higher-level standard, there is a strong emphasis on leadership, quality improvement, and influencing practice, making structured EPA preparation essential to ensure apprentices can evidence both competence and impact.
Key Areas Covered Include:
Leading practice and supporting team development
Driving quality in learning, development, and assessment
Safeguarding, compliance, and operational responsibility
Observation, planning, and continuous improvement
Working collaboratively with families, professionals, and external agencies
