Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Overview for Training Providers
The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship prepares individuals to support the delivery of high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Early Years Practitioners work across a range of settings, including nurseries, pre-schools, and schools, supporting the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play, and learning experiences for children from birth to age 5.
They typically operate under the guidance of more experienced practitioners, contributing to the day-to-day care, development, and wellbeing of children within a structured early years environment.
For Training Providers, delivering the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 standard requires:
Alignment to EYFS requirements and staff ratio expectations
Clear development of core knowledge, skills, and behaviours in early years practice
Structured preparation for End-Point Assessment (EPA), particularly around practical competence
As the entry point into the early years workforce, this standard places strong emphasis on practical application, observation, and workplace readiness, making effective EPA preparation essential for successful outcomes.
Key Areas Covered Include:
Supporting child development and learning through play
Safeguarding, health, and wellbeing
Observation and contribution to assessment
Working as part of a professional early years team
Supporting inclusive and safe learning environments
