Assessment Methods
The EPA for the Children, Young People and Families Manager Level 5 apprenticeship is made up of two assessment components, both of which must be passed to achieve the apprenticeship.
Situational Judgement Test
The Situational Judgement Test is designed to test the thinking and approach of the apprentice in dealing with specific situations that are typical of management and leadership within the children, young people and families sector. It will highlight their competence in the knowledge outlined in the standard. It will also demonstrate how they consider that the decisions they make will impact the outcomes for service users. The test will last for up to 2 hours.
Competence Interview Informed by Submission of Portfolio
The Competence Interview is a structured discussion lasting 55–65 minutes, giving the apprentice the opportunity to discuss the content of their portfolio with the assessor. While the portfolio itself is not directly assessed, it is used to guide the assessor’s questioning. The interview focuses on the work the apprentice has completed and the strengths they have demonstrated, with questions exploring their professional practice and how they have applied their knowledge, skills, and behaviours in their role.
EPA Results
NQual will communicate results within 10 working days of the final assessment.
If an apprentice Fails one or more component, they will be offered the opportunity to re-sit / re-take the component(s). It is then up to the apprentice’s employer how many attempts an apprentice is given.
Where any assessment method must be re-sat or re-taken, the apprentice will be awarded a maximum EPA grade of a Pass. Re-sits and re-takes are not offered to an apprentice wishing to move from a Pass to a higher grade.
