What This Standard Covers
Specialist Teaching Assistants provide targeted, specialist support to learners across primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision, and further education settings. Apprentices train in one of three specialist options: SEND, Social and Emotional Well-being, or Specialist Curriculum Provision.

Assessment Details
Specialist Teaching Assistant Level 5 (Revised Version) is an apprenticeship standard that follows the reformed apprenticeship assessment model, where assessment is designed to be more flexible and integrated across the programme.
Training providers can choose how their apprentices are assessed: the NQual Approach, where NQual completes the full apprenticeship assessment on your behalf, or the Approved Centre Approach, where NQual works in partnership with your organisation to deliver assessment together.
This standard requires one mandatory component, alongside an additional assessment method selected from an approved list.

This standard will be approved for delivery from 14 December 2026. Training providers can register their interest with NQual now to be ready ahead of the go-live date.
