As we continue to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, we at NQual are proud to shine a light on the women who lead, inspire, and drive change. This year’s theme highlights empowerment, leadership, and recognising achievements—qualities that define the remarkable individuals shaping today’s business landscape.

One such leader is Shirley Gaston, founder of Azesta. With a deep passion for learning, collaboration, and personal growth, Shirley has built a career centred on helping others unlock their potential. Her leadership is rooted in authenticity, fostering meaningful connections, and embracing creativity to make a lasting impact.

Today, we are honoured to showcase Shirley—offering a glimpse into the experiences, challenges, and successes that have shaped her approach to leadership and the ways she continues to empower those around her.

What impact do you strive to make within your organisation and beyond?

"I strive to be as flexible, responsive and positive as possible to enable us to support learners when and where they need it in tune with their work lives and preferences. We want to help as many people as possible develop personally and professionally, be more successful at work and enjoy their lives more as a result of thinking resourcefully in all situations."

How do you empower and support other women in your organisation?

"We are a female-owned and female-led business and we enable employees to work flexibly so that they can look after their poorly children and attend important events. We give them the freedom to make decisions and encourage self-development through learning, enabling them to progress and take on leadership positions. We also provide them opportunities to build their personal support networks."

What achievement are you most proud of?

"I am most proud of overcoming massive business challenges and thinking and acting positively and resourcefully in these situations. The 2008 bank crash, a divorce resulting in the resignation of a Director, COVID-19, companies going into liquidation owing us money. When the going is tough, mindset is everything. "
