Deliver Apprenticeship Assessment for Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3

Lead Adult Care Workers provide hands-on, person-centred care while also supervising and supporting junior staff, combining direct care delivery with frontline leadership. The role is found across residential and nursing homes, domiciliary care, supported living, rehabilitation and palliative care settings, and NHS or community health services — wherever adults need support to live as independently and safely as possible.

• Supervising and supporting a team of care workers, promoting effective teamwork and professional development

• Contributing to person-centred care and support plans that respect individuals' dignity, choices and independence

• Monitoring individuals' physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, and coordinating access to health services

• Implementing safeguarding practices, and following health, safety and infection control procedures

• Maintaining accurate care records and working within current regulatory, legal and ethical requirements

• Supporting continuous professional development and fostering an inclusive, high-quality care environment

Assessment Details

Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 (Version 2.0) is an apprenticeship standard that follows the reformed apprenticeship assessment model, where assessment is designed to be more flexible and integrated across the programme.

Training providers can choose how their apprentices are assessed: the NQual Approach, where NQual completes the full apprenticeship assessment on your behalf, or the Approved Centre Approach, where NQual works in partnership with your organisation to deliver assessment together.

This standard requires one mandatory component, alongside an additional assessment method selected from an approved list.

The mandatory component for this apprenticeship standard is a Professional Discussion.

Skills England's assessment plan allows the additional assessment method for this standard to be selected from the following list:

• Portfolio

• Presentation

• Case Study

• Additional Professional Discussion

NQual's assessment design for this standard is still in development. We'll confirm which method has been selected once finalised — in the meantime, providers can register their interest to be kept updated as our approach is published.

Apprentices may be assessed at any appropriate point during their 

apprenticeship programme.

Alongside the apprenticeship assessment, apprentices must also complete the Diploma in Adult Care (Level 3, Skills for Care approved) before the end of their apprenticeship — this is a separate mandated qualification requirement set out in the occupational standard, not an optional extra.

This standard will be approved for delivery from 12 November 2026. Training providers can register their interest with NQual now to be ready ahead of the go-live date.
